CALL TO ACTION!

Save Shalimar Supporters –

There are two very important meetings coming up on Wednesday, June 4th and Wednesday, June 11th. Both are at 6pm. 2222 S. Price Road. The Developer will be holding their neighborhood meetings to sell you on why it is a great idea to wipe out a 60-year old greenspace, neighborhood, and community anchor. The City of Tempe will also be in attendance documenting the meeting.

We need a very strong turnout on both days. Yes, it will be warm. Yes, you may have to park down the street and walk a little. Yes, it may be a little uncomfortable in a packed venue. The Developer wants you to find an excuse to not attend. Poor attendance = Developer benefit.

If you have been on the sidelines, it is time to get into the game. If you have wondered ‘how can I help’, this is it. The Developer and City of Tempe need to see the strong opposition to rezoning from the community.

Please add these two dates to your calendar. Don’t come alone! Bring a family member(s), neighbor(s) or friend(s).

Please find a way to show up. We need to put words into action. These meetings matter. It is important. Hopefully you respond to the call-to-action.

Please share meeting notice below with your network.

Thank you for your on-going support to save this 60+ year old community hub. Shalimar is worth saving. For Tempe today and Tempe tomorrow.

  1. Hello. I was thinking that I could write a letter in support of maintaining a green area like the golf course. Can you provide me with email or physical addresses for people who could help this happen? City council members? Others? Would a letter-writing campaign at this point be impactful? Thank you for providing info in the past. Take care, Aileen Taguchi

Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council of Tempe –
I am a citizen of Tempe and want to convey my concerns regarding the proposed rezoning of the Shalimar Golf Course property. I am opposed to any rezoning. Rezoning and losing the golf course would have a dramatic and negative impact on the neighborhood, adjacent neighborhoods, businesses, the city of Tempe, and the lifestyle that so many enjoy in this historic gem of north Tempe. Destroying an iconic piece of Tempe green space in favor of a housing development is not in the best interest of the greater community. This space is a treasure not just to our city, but to the thousands of Arizonans that have enjoyed time in this special and unique part of Tempe. I stand with my neighbors, friends, and all citizens of Tempe in coming together to prevent a development disaster. It is my hope that the City of Tempe council members will fully support the community in opposition to rezoning.
      Thank you.

  2. I have lived across the street from Shalimar Golf course for 37 years now and have enjoyed many years along with my husband playing golf and dining in the club house! I gave him a retirement party there and I also had my retirement party there, we had such good times there!

My husband (Lou Walker) was an avid golfer, belonged to the men’s golf club there and also was a ranger on the golf course for many years! He loved that he could just walk across the street to go golfing, it was perfect for him and that is why his ashes are buried on the ninth hole at Shalimar Golf course, he wanted to watch all his buddies still golf and be a part of Shalimar!

I hate to see it go away even though I have not been there for many years now, it is still part of my life and my deceased husbands life! Love Shalimar!

  3. Please try and save that amazing green space in Shalimar! Not only does it provide much needed green space in the city of Tempe but the oxygen that it produces and habitat for many birds/wildlife.
