On January 1, 2025, the agreement protecting Shalimar Golf Course as a community-centered golf course expired. The current owners have a sale agreement with a developer planning to replace it with high-density housing, raising concerns about overcrowding, traffic, noise, and the loss of this historic site. Save Shalimar is a group of Tempe residents dedicated to preventing rezoning and preserving the golf course as a green space.
