We have reached the end of the road for Shalimar 1.0. The closing of the business was anticipated. We are actively pursuing a solution to keep the golf course.

It is important for all interested parties to know that the closing of Shalimar 1.0 is the closing of the business and is independent of the status for sale, rezoning, and development.

The property is NOT sold. The sale is contingent on rezoning.

The property is NOT approved for rezoning. Rezoning requires the approval of the Tempe City Council.

The property is NOT approved for development. Development requires the owner/developer to complete all required procedural steps including community meetings, development review council, and finally city council meetings with public input.

The owner/developer continue to push their plan to put 244+ high-density homes in (the bulk being 2-story rental townhouses) and wiping out this greenspace forever.

The path to Shalimar 2.0 will have several hurdles to overcome. These are not insurmountable. It will require continued solidarity of the community and commitment to the cause.

Please do not be intimidated by the owner/developer direct and indirect pressure tactics. The Owner/Developer PR Team is walking the neighborhood spreading misinformation and trying to gather support for their plan to destroy Shalimar. The narrative and message continuing to be this is a ‘done deal’.

It is not.

There are interested parties in early the stages of an offer to purchase and maintain the green space. Yes, there are buyers who want to keep the golf course.

The owner has given the neighborhood two choices: Look at a 44-acre open space with dead grass until a collaborative solution can be worked out; or accept a high-density development looking at 2-story townhouses and a thousand extra cars, FOREVER.

Shalimar is worth saving. The benefit to one does not remotely justify the tremendous negative impact to hundreds of families in the surrounding neighborhoods, and the impact to thousands in Tempe.
